Dr. Ducat Taught Local Seniors How To Stay Healthy As They Age

Last Monday evening, I had the pleasure of speaking at the JOY (Just Older  Youth) meeting at Trinity Lutheran Church in Roselle.  They asked me to teach them some tips on staying healthy and also to get them moving after their big potluck dinner, complete with an impressive dessert table.

My presentation centered around these three tips for staying healthy:  1) Fuel the body to THRIVE.  2) You were made to MOVE!  and 3) If you don’t USE it, you will LOSE it!

We discussed how we would all be better off if we ate like our grandparents and stayed away from “science experiment foods.”  Maybe meat and potatoes (with some veggies), wasn’t such a bad thing after all.

Later we learned how our bodies were made to move and talked about wayswe could get 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise into our routine 5+ days a week and also how to strength train safely to help maintain our muscle mass.  Everyone loved doing the Bird Dog, Wall Push Ups and chair squats!

In November, we will be providing 10 min chair massages for teachers at DuJardin Elementary School and helping teach youth athletes how to avoid athletic injuries as part of our community service program.   If you need a speaker or massage day for your organization, company or church, please let us know.  It’s our pleasure to assist our community!
